Malawi is located at the heart of Africa. It’s a stable and safe country with welcoming and friendly people. The centrepiece of local tourism industry is the Lake Malawi, which is also Livingstone’s Lake of Stars. The country boasts rich diversity in wildlife. The Malawi Marine Park has been designated as the UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a good place to visit for anglers, bird watchers, game observers and water sports enthusiasts. The capital of Malawi is Lilongwe and the climate is tropical with dry and wet seasons. The currency is Malawi Kwacha and credit cards are accepted only in limited locations, such as big hotels or stores in the capital. The country uses 230V, 50Hz electricity with 3-pin square plugs.  The most common health risk is yellow fever, so inoculation is necessary before you go to Malawi. Other risks may include malaria, meningitis, typhoid and hepatitis A.

Lake Malawi is an obvious place to visit and considered as the prime tourist attraction in the country. It’s the third largest lake in Africa with lively villages, palm-fringed beaches and rich water wildlife. In some spots, you can do scuba diving, waterskiing and sailing. There are more than 400 identified species in and around Lake Malawi, many of them are endemic. Other than fish, Lake Malawi is also the habitat for birds and otters.  Kasungu National Park is known for its wide rivers and sandy plains. It’s ideal for bird watching and game viewing. In the park, you can go to the Lifupa Dam and see elephants. The Zomba Plateau is located about 900 meters of the town of Zomba. It is a place covered in verdant grassland and evergreen forest. It’s home to epiphytic orchids, rare mountain forest birds and blue monkeys. You can also go to the Mulungizi Dam for fishing.

Nyika National Park is located at the northern highlands. It has the biggest concentration of eland and antelope in the country. You can view the area using car or enjoy the surrounding from horseback. Other activities in the area include trout fishing, bird watching and mountain biking. The Liwonde National Park is the premier area to see the Big Five. The Lake Malombe is great for leisure boat safari. It also has the Lilian’s lovebird. The Lengwe National Park is a good place to see crested guineafowl, African broadbill, Nyala antelope and buffalo.

Lilongwe or the Garden City is known for its indigenous trees and colourful flowering trees. Other places to visit are Water Gardens, Chinese Pagoda and Kitu Botanical Gardens. Blantyre is a commercial city of Malawi and it was founded in 1876, which is surrounded by mountains and hills. You may also go to Shire River and game parks, Thyolo tea district, Michiru Mountain Park, Majete Game Reserves and various curio shops. The Mount Mulanje is known for its granite peaks that may reach 3000 meters, which are a challenge for even serious climbers. Viphya plateau is a great place to visit for bird watchers. The Luwawa Dam is a great center for adventure, such as rock climbing and canoeing.
